Have Airstream, will travel. Top furnishings and interior designer Barclay Butera has purchased and redecorated one of Airstream’s top-selling models. It will be used during the 2006 Sundance Film Festival as the GreenRoom Celebrity Lounge for top companies such as WireImage, the Los Angeles Times, the Utah Film Commission, Hewlett-Packard, L’Oreal and Laser Pacific Post. The event is produced by Monkeys In Pants LLC. In true Butera fashion, the Airstream will feature luxurious fabrics, custom flooring and window treatments, a multi-disc DVD/CD changer with flat-screen TV, extra high-energy batteries for longterm power, and all amenities.
The Butera Airstream will be located on the Monkeys In Pants GreenRoom (MIP) during the Sundance Film Festival, next door to the permanent Barclay Butera Park City showroom. It will be used for photo shoots, print and broadcast interviews, and as gifting or getaway lounge. The rest of MIPs space will also be furnished by Barclay Butera Inc. To inquire about reserving the Airstream, please contact MIP at 404-658-9324 or via email at email@example.com.
The Airstream International CCD Bambi 19’ will be used consistently by the designer at events throughout the year, with the interior style changed accordingly. “This is a fun, creative project for me,” says Butera. “I can play around with ideas on a small scale in one of the most stylish and smart lifestyle designs of the 20th century. Airstream really provided people a way to travel, camp or live independently in the 1950s, and now it’s celebrating a renaissance of which I’m excited to be a part.”
Airstream approached Butera for his design aesthetic to create a first-time, one-off marketing unit that merged Airstream innovation with a high-concept designer. Barclay loved their idea but wanted to own his own unit at this time, so it could be an ongoing, ever-evolving project. He purchased the travel trailer from the Southern California dealership for Airstream, Southwest Coaches in Irvine, which has also sold trailers to Julia Roberts and Matthew McConaughey. (Butera’s designed unit is an independent project from the current Airstream line, and therefore not available for purchase.)
Barclay Butera and Hollywood Life magazine will also be hosting a party to salute must-see dramas during the film festival on January 22nd at The Gateway Center. Contact: Julie Du Brow.
About the Airstream International CCD Bambi 19:
The most compact Airstream on the road. A happy marriage of economy and efficiency, every Bambi inch is designed for maximum livability in minimum length. Thanks to its lightweight, hand-riveted, all aluminum aircraft construction, you can travel with a Bambi as fast and as far as with your car alone. It probably has more years of experience behind it than any other trailer ever built. Its great grandfather was first built in 1929 and its design has been road tested and perfected in the years since. When it comes to small trailers, the Bambi is the finest trailer investment you can ever make. The CCD Bambi owes it’s well-designed floorplan to San Fransisco’s own architect, Christopher C. Deam.
