Hotel Guests 'Delighted' with new Healthy Hotels Guide

As many as 90% of recent hotel guests are known to be concerned with the hygiene of their hotel bedding, haunted by the thought of, who's slept in their bed before them and is it clean? Finally an answer which delivers peace of mind for today's more health conscious guests with a world first directory of certified easy to find locations.

(PRWEB) January 17, 2006 -- Guests and travellers have been known for years to be putting the thought of their hotel room hygiene ‘out of their heads.’ According to Opinion Research, nine out of ten guests are more inclined to choose a hotel with more hygienic rooms as a result.

Swab tests of TV controllers, door handles, bed covers and mattresses have been long understood by today’s hotel guests as concerning, regardless of class or demographic.

As issues such as Avian Flu, SARS and other pathogen based headlines continue to convert the everyday guest to discerning health conscious guest, the demand for healthier options when travelling has never been more overwhelming.

“Well aware of consumer queasiness about tucking into a bed that has been slept on by strangers, hotel chains have been laundering the image of their bedspreads. According to two new surveys, cleanliness is even more important in a hotel room..”
Leading Statistics Provider, Market Metrix 2005.

Whilst a handful of larger chains have introduced more frequent laundering of bedding, dust mite resistant fibres and other minor measures, the lack of practical solutions for hotels that don’t impact cost, bookings and schedules heavily, mean guests are still saying ‘eeww’ and have been for as long as they can remember.

These examples not only prove that guests want healthier options and hotels are paying attention, but they also highlight the limited options hotels are faced with, along with their cringing guests.

Perhaps that’s why the Healthy Hotels Program has been received so well amongst guests and hoteliers, even prior to official release, scheduled for June 2006.

By combining a newly developed technology in mattress and bedding sanitisation, with an easily accessible online portal, guests can logon and view their certified Healthy Hotels in each city with ease. The site explains the differences of a certified hotel, as they relate to the hotel guest. It also provides links for booking options should they be required.

Guests can read about current health topics and the latest solutions available from vaccinations and personal hygiene, to current problem areas around the world. A free monthly newsletter keeps travellers informed of these issues and the latest healthy locations for them to consider when in transit.

For the show, site or publication with an interest in the traveller audience, the Healthy Hotels Guide has incredible pulling power. “Just ask yourself, have you ever wondered if the bed was clean? It’s something that virtually anyone who’s stayed in a hotel has wondered about and it’s mind boggling, that for such a globally proven issue, there is just nothing else out there!”
Janice White Founder, Health Protect International

With links from and features amongst the world's largest online booking sites, the Healthy Hotels Site is commercially friendly, with the absence of an in-house booking facility. Other features include a small selected range of unique products, which relate to travel and hygiene.

With a number of hotels already proud of their involvement, a series of related programs will be rolled out early to meet higher than expected demand. Such initiatives include the Healthy Schools Program for boarding schools, the Healthy Childcare Program, the Healthy Aged Care Program and a list of others to come.

Traveller interest in the Healthy Hotels Program has already begun to spread like wildfire. With more feature hotels added every month and media points realizing the interest generated in bringing the program before the world. Until healthyhotelsguide.com goes live in June 06, travelers are encouraged to register their interest on www.healthprotect.net which also explains the technology behind the program.

The Healthy Hotels Logo is 100% Australian and will soon be recognized by the ACCC as an official standard.
