Somerville, MA January 17, 2006--Rev. Robert J. Carr has released "Politically Correct Jesus" for e-download. The acclaimed work that first appeared on his website and later on Catholic Online is a ficticious letter to the Apostle Peter. The letter written by an executive at a fictious university explains why Jesus Christ would not be allowed to speak at the university.
"Politically Correct Jesus" highlights the many ways that Jesus Christ was actually quite direct. Using today's standards he would not be acceptable in many educated circles.
"This Mr. Jesus needs to know that such terms that he uses as:
-Do not babble like the pagans
-Depart from me, you evildoers
-everyone who listens to these words of mine but does not act on them will be like a fool who built his house on sand
And finally worst of all: 'Father'
These, and so many words he speaks, are so completely politically incorrect, as is calling the object of his rude behavior 'The blind leading the blind!' This is just not the behavior we condone at this university."
Says the fictious Screwtape Axelrod, Director of Speakers Programs for the equally fictious Hahvahd University.
Father Carr came up with the idea while reading the gospel of Matthew at mass. He found a passage in which the Apostles chided Jesus for offending the Pharisees, at which case Jesus offends them more by calling them blind. The priest then just sat down and wrote "Politically Incorrect Jesus". It was well received by the online community.
A former radio announcer and producer, Father Robert J. Carr is a priest for the Archdiocese of Boston. He has written extensively on such topics as faith, evolution and anti-Catholicism. He is also the author of "Evolution, Faith and the Future of Catholicism".
Politically Incorrect Jesus is available for download for $1.00 at http://www.lulu.com/catholicismanew, Fr. Carr's other books and projects are available through his website http://www.revrobertjcarr.com.
