David Miguel Estrada Premieres "Stu's Dead Dog" in New York
Actor/Playwright/Director David Miguel Estrada will world-premiere his Southwest play "Stu's Dead Dog" at the Producer's Club II in NYC February 5-6, 2006
New York, NY (PRWEB) January 24, 2006 -- The Riant Theatre in association with Vicarious Productions is very pleased to announce the world-premiere of "Stu's Dead Dog" February 5-6, 7pm at the Producer's Club II, located at 616 Ninth Avenue (bet. 43rd & 44th St) in Manhattan's famed Theatre District. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased by calling the box office at (646) 623-3488 or by visiting www.therianttheatre.com, where you can also see the play online.
The actor/playwright/director is the youngest of a theatrical family, the son of an Army officer and a stage actress. He presents his latest work after having five of his plays produced in New York including "You Ain't No Johnny Cash," "My Burger With Ted," and "The Yale Diaries."
The Austin American Statesman's Michael Barnes raves "David Miguel Estrada's material is engaging throughout," noting "he acts with a filmic sense of truth." The Boston Sun calls him a "theatrical prodigy."
Estrada's New York directing credits include the existential "Being," and Giovanni Affinito's "Second Sunday in May." He has also directed "ICONS: Vol. 2," and "Tortilla Heaven," the touring shows of his brother, HBO Latino's Jade Esteban Estrada and his sister, Celeste Angela Estrada, a recent recipient of the Gertrude Stein Award. Joey Reynolds of the nationally syndicated WOR Radio says "Don't mess with that family!"
The testosterone-filled play, which is set in rural Texas, centers around the strained relationship of two friends after one runs over the other's dog. After playing Stanley Kowalski in the recent Off-Broadway production of "A Streetcar Named Desire" and an appearance on "Saturday Night Live," Estrada displays exceptional range by playing the oldest man in the play, Bill. The play also stars Michael Henry Harris as Joe, Glenn Lawrence as Dale, and Armistead Johnson as Stu.
In a recent radio interview, Estrada said, "I bought cowboy boots in the East Village with Sam Shepard the other day. He wanted a pair for his premiere of 'Don't Come Knocking' at Sundance and I wanted a pair for the premiere of my show. I think they're lucky boots, but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed."
