BRYN MAWR, PA. (PRWEB) January 19, 2006 -– The American College will present a new exhibit from "Out of The Academy" in the Gregg Conference Center gallery. The exhibit will run from January 17 through March 12, 2006. The American College Alumni Association will sponsor an opening reception where the public can meet the artists on Sunday afternoon January 22 from 2 to 5 p.m. in the gallery.
"Out of The Academy" is an organization of emerging professional artists. All have graduated from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts four-year program in Philadelphia, but each has followed a different pathway to creative self-expression and has won prestigious awards.
Their paintings have been exhibited in museums and galleries and hang in private collections. The ten artists in the exhibit include Michael Ajero, Karen L. Baumeister, Lesa Chittenden Lim, Elaine B. Douds, Mary Farrow, Sarah Hunter, Benjamin Ramirez, Hal Robinson, Sterling Shaw, and Maria Louise Solomon.
“While planning for the exhibit with Marjorie Fletcher, curator of The College's gallery, we started discussing the unique paths some of the artists had taken before becoming full-time students at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.” said Hal Robinson, the group chairman, “Careers have run the gamut – from cardiologists to international executives.”
The majority of subject matter is traditional oil painting with styles ranging from representational to abstract and from figurative to landscape. The paintings on display represent the individual approach each artist has taken to express his or her unique vision.
Regular gallery hours for the exhibit are Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Saturdays by appointment, and Sundays 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. For information, call 610-526-1000 or call the office of the curator at 610-526-1452.
