With the advent of the Chinese New Year on January 29, Wanart LLC, an up-and-coming stationery and gift company, kicks off the Year of the Dog with its new line of baby one-piece and bibs featuring the Lunar Babies?, a collection of whimsical characters inspired by the Chinese zodiac.

The Chinese New Year is the most important traditional Chinese holiday. The dog is just one of the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac, the others being pig, rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, and rooster. According to Chinese tradition, each animal is associated with unique personality traits. Those born in the Year of the Dog are honest, trustworthy, dependable, and possess a passion for fair play and justice. Generous, sincere, and loyal, Dogs make good friends and work well with others. Some famous personalities born in the Year of the Dog include Bill Clinton, Madonna, Elvis Presley, and Dolly Parton.

The Asian-inspired lines of Wanart celebrate Chinese tradition in the context of today’s multicultural society. “Chinese culture has experienced an enduring trend in American society from food to fashion to home décor,” says Joyce Wan, founder of Wanart. “And with so much being said about China these days, this interest will only grow. Americans are more fascinated about Chinese culture and society then ever before.”

The Lunar Babies characters blend a traditional Asian theme with modern design. Lunar Babies designs are available on greeting cards, framed prints, accessories, and now for the first time, a line of baby one-piece and bibs distinctively packaged in clear Chinese-style takeout boxes with matching gift enclosure cards. These boutique-quality embroidered one-pieces and bibs are made in the United States out of 100% cotton. Each one-piece and bib features a Lunar Babies animal alongside its Chinese character and English translation.

Other Asian-inspired lines from Wanart include the Bamboo Collection? and the special Chinese edition of the Jellybeanz? line. The Bamboo Collection features decorative motifs inspired by the traditional Chinese folk art of paper-cutting and Chinese calligraphy in phrases ranging from “Thank you” to “Good luck.” The meaning of the terms and motifs contained on each greeting card is explained on its back, transforming a simple greeting into a cross-cultural encounter. The special Chinese edition Jellybeanz line of greeting cards showcases childlike characters in situations that pay homage to Chinese culture and traditions.

About Wanart, LLC

The story of Wanart began with a child's love for art. Joyce Wan, Wanart's Founder, designed her first greeting card when she was in grade school for a city-wide greeting card design contest. The design won first place and was subsequently mass-produced and sold through a major regional department store chain. Seeing a niche in the market for Asian-inspired greeting cards, Ms. Wan tapped into her Chinese heritage and long-felt love of design to start Wanart, LLC in 2003. From its head office in New York, Wanart distributes greeting cards and other products to many fine boutiques and museum stores across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
