KID-FIT Kids Smarter and More Physically Fit

Findings from a recent nationwide pilot study suggest that preschool children's health knowledge and fitness level can both be significantly increased by participating in KID-FIT, a physical education program for preschoolers.

Aerobic Fitness Consultants has just announced the results of a year long pilot study examining the benefits of KID-FIT, a physical education program for preschool children ages 2-6.

Kindergarten children from various public schools across the nation participated in a physical education program done to music which included age appropriate activity sheets, newsletters, recipes and class projects. Their year end scores were then compared to scores of the previous graduating class who did not take KID-FIT.

Both groups took a 3 part test: 1- Identification and recall of health and fitness related items, 2 – A physical fitness test, and 3 – Drawings of healthful and harmful behaviors. After a school year of KID-FIT, children leaving Kindergarten did significantly better in all areas of the test than children entering first grade the year before.

Findings suggest that the KID-FIT curriculum is effective in teaching preschool children healthy lifestyle knowledge while improving their physical fitness. Both of which are necessary in battling the obesity epidemic in young children today.

Researchers from California State University at Los Angeles will be publishing the data in a professional journal later this year. For more information on KID-FIT go to the KID-FIT web site or call (877) KID-FITT.
