African-American Women Jump From 'Superwoman' to Depression

Author Nikki Thomas releases her first novel which deals head-on with the problem many women in the African-American women face: the 'Superwoman' Syndrome. This emotional tale focuses on the true-to-life consequences of the syndrome that sweeping the community, and how heroine Simone Carter overcame it.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) January 20, 2006 -- Nikki Thomas announces publication of From Where I’m Standing in conjunction with Lulu Enterprises, the world’s the world’s fastest-growing provider of print-on-demand books.

From Where I’m Standing chronicles the life of a seemingly successful 31 year old neurosurgeon, Simone Carter. When she is overcome by tragedy, admitting depression and the “superwoman syndrome” she had fallen victim to is the hardest thing she’s ever dealt with. Then, just when she finds the courage to face her demons and uncover what is really important in her life, she’s faced with the unthinkable.

Nikki Thomas wrote From Where I’m Standing because depression has long been ignored in the African American community, especially among the women who are prone to suffer from it. She wanted women to see themselves in Simone’s character, realize the consequences of being a “superwoman”, and know that it’s okay to seek professional help. She came to Lulu because she wanted to be in control of the publishing process and found Lulu’s print-on-demand tools to be fast, easy and, most importantly, free.

From Where I’m Standing is available for purchase at www.lulu.com, in a marketplace filled with other unique, and sometimes, downright strange, items. You can also purchase it at any major online bookstore, such as Amazon.com.

Thomas states that, "Writing the book was the hard part. Getting it published and printed through Lulu was a breeze. Lulu made everything so much easier than other print-on-demand providers.”
