The Newest Trends In Scrapbooking

A look at the newest techniques for creative scrapbooking projects.

What are some of the current trends in scrapbooking? Creative minds are constantly coming up with novel ways to approach the craft, and the following are some of the current trends. Use these to create your own scrapbooking masterpieces (or at least experiment). Keep in mind, however, that no matter what the trends, one of the most important things about scrapbooking is that you create pages that fit your personality and style. A trend may be the hottest thing, but don't feel like you have to use it. Your scrapbooks are a unique expression of your creativity and how you see the world.

Creative Cropping

You may own every type of scrapbooking scissor available, and still feel tired of the "same old" ways to crop your photos. One answer is creative cropping. In this method, photos are cropped using a plain old straight scissor or cutting tool. The difference is that the photo is cropped in such a way that that the border is created through cropping, much like how you cut out snowflakes as a child or how you might approach stenciling. The main element of the photo is surrounded by a custom-cropped frame by cutting out shapes around the edge of the photo. It creates an interesting visual, but can be distracting if used too much. Save this technique for special photos or as a surprise element.

Digital Scrapbooking

With the advances in photo and color printing from home, you can print out many of your scrapbooking supplies in your pajamas. Some sites allow you to print elements for free; others offer a membership that grants to access to many embellishment options such as tags, pictures, letters, and more. Be sure to print on quality, acid-free paper when using these options. You can also purchase CD-ROMS that you can then print from.

Mini Scrapbooks

Mini scrapbooks are a hot trend because they allow people to scrapbook on a budget and in a limited timeframe. In other words, they simplify the scrapbooking process in many ways, but this does not mean they limit creativity. Mini scrapbooks are a fun way to expand your scrapbooking and make great gifts.
