Carroll Publishing launched GovSearchLocal, a comprehensive and multifunctional government contact information service, at the Midwinter meeting of the American Library Association today. The brand new subscription service enables library and industry users to identify and locate key officials in federal, state, county and municipal agencies.

GovSearchLocal is a unique, web-based research and information tool that provides access to officials and decision makers for all levels of government, in a specific local area. Using a standard web browser, the service provides 24/7 access to officials in 60,000 government offices, all in one convenient website.

Carroll provides the most current listings as a result of daily updates. The consistent display format makes the site user-friendly and intuitive. List-making and mail-merges are dramatically streamlined with unlimited downloads in Excel spreadsheet format.

“Libraries subscribe to databases to obtain information from a wide variety of sources in a consistent format. However, that information is typically packaged in a way that suits the publisher,” says Tom Carroll, president of Carroll Publishing. “We made it our goal to give our important library customers access to information they want and need, in a way never before available. Instead of having to subscribe to a national service to obtain what they need for their own state, GovSearchLocal focuses on one selected state, or several states, at a very reasonable cost. Users value the ability to select only what is most important to them. That is the essence of the way we describe GovSearchLocal, ‘Your Government – Your Way,’” he continues.

GovSearchLocal is available to subscribers in three ways: by state, by Federal Region, or by Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). Subscribers may select more than one state or Region, or from among the more than 360 MSAs.

The service displays the government contact’s name, title, agency office, address, phone, fax and even email address, along with agency expenditures, employee counts, population information and directory assistance numbers. The site also provides e-mail addresses and direct hot-links to government websites.
