At-Home Mother of Two Starts Online Clothing Business
At-home mother of two creates online business to fight the doldrums and the isolation that come from spending most of your waking hours with an infant and a toddler.
(PRWEB) January 22, 2006 -- Ask any woman who’s had a baby and they’ll tell you it is the most rewarding experience of their lives. But they’ll also tell you that after months and months of spending your entire day with an infant, you begin to feel as though you are losing touch with the adult world; especially if you are accustomed to a fast-paced work life.
That was the case for Agata Langer, a former English Teacher and translator. “My children are 20 months apart,” says Mrs. Langer. “They are now 27 months and 7 months old. So I’ve basically been cut off from the working world and adults for more than two years.”
She continues: “After that much time without regular adult interaction, you begin to feel as though you are losing your edge and you feel as though your intellect is slipping away from a lack of use.” When you spend every waking moment of every day with your kids, the quantity of time you spend with them actually diminishes the quality of the time you get to share with them,” she says.
“I felt as though I needed to channel some of my energy into a project to keep my mind sharp and to help improve the quality of time I spent with my family. As I pondered what project I would undertake, I drew upon my recent experience as a mother,” she said.
“Like any Mom, I always tried to find good quality clothing for my children without spending a fortune, especially since they grow out of them after a few short months. It seemed like a perfect idea: Bring high quality, low priced children’s clothing to people though an online shopping experience.”
Mrs. Langer spent the next several months developing a website and locating suppliers. Soon, www.bestdressedtot.com became a reality. Our random sampling of Best Dressed Tot’s inventory revealed name brands such as OshKosh, Carter’s and Reebok at impressively low prices.
“Eliminating the physical retail location; the rent, the insurance, the utility bills, etc allows me to keep my prices low,” she says. “I am proud to offer good products to people at prices they can afford. This is a small business and I run it myself. I treat my clients like a close circle of friends instead of like customers. I wouldn’t sell anything to them that I wouldn’t put on my own children,” she says.
She closes by saying: “The experience has been terrific. I enjoy what I’ve been able to do for my customers. Also, facing the challenges of starting a business has kept my mind sharp and the time I’ve devoted to the business helped to improve the quality of time I get to spend with my children. It’s something I would recommend to any at-home Mom who wants to keep her senses sharp and improve the quality of time she spends with her kids.”
