Emerging Leaders in Real Estate, New Harvard, BOMA Executive Education Program, Welcomes its Second Class in March, 2006

Popular Harvard, BOMA Executive Education program for real estate industry managers and directors returns in March. Entitled, Emerging Leaders in Real Estate, the program builds management and leadership skills to enable participants to take their careers to the next level.

Cambridge, MA (PRWEB) January 22, 2006 – Last October, Harvard Graduate School of Design and BOMA International launched Emerging Leaders in Real Estate, a new executive education program for real estate industry managers and directors who are—or want to be—on their company’s executive track.

Now, just six months later, due to its enormous popularity, the program will be offered again in March. Emerging Leaders in Real Estate is scheduled on March 5-10, 2006 and will be held on the Harvard University campus in Cambridge, MA.

Designed specifically for BOMA members, Emerging Leaders in Real Estate builds strategic planning, financial management, and leadership skills to take careers and employing firms to the next level.

“From the very beginning, it was clear to me that this was going to be a completely different kind of learning experience,” said Victoria Hartke, lease acquisition manager for the General Services Administration (GSA) and graduate of the inaugural program. “There was a level of intensity and focus that never let up … we weren’t there to take breaks and check e-mails; we were there to learn and grow, and that pressure and framework was sustained the entire time we were there.”

The program’s administrators limit the class size and strive for a balanced mix of professional backgrounds to ensure that all segments of the industry are represented. Through case studies, small group discussion, and interactive classroom exercises, participants receive intensive training in the financial management of real estate organizations while gaining a deeper understanding of what it means to be leader.

“I’ve already had the opportunity to reach back to the knowledge base I gained at the course and apply it,” said Joe Schechtel, director of asset services for Cushman & Wakefield. “Everything we talked about—from developing people and their career plans to everyday interactions to bonus and review times—have all naturally come to mind since I’ve been back at the office.”

David Hudson, vice president and director of industrial division, for Trammell Crow Company, also came home a better leader, with a clearer picture of why his employees would succeed or fail. “I gained a better understanding that the success of my team is really based on how well I guide them, counsel them, and move them to the next level. Before taking this course, I was totally focused on production. But I quickly learned that production is not always an indicator of growth.”

“Learning how to manage the stages of my employees was also very beneficial,” he added. “It gave me insight into how to better motivate my team, stressed the importance of management and communications skills, and helped me focus on career counseling, all of which have served me well.”
