Life On Umbriel – A Legend Is Born

Paul J. Barker’s fellow Canadians owe him a debt of gratitude. Not only has the man written and published a stunning novel; he appears to have launched a very colorful legend in the process.

(PRWEB) January 24, 2006 -- From the author of that mother of all cult classics, “Timothy’s Take-Out,” comes an even more imaginative novel in a different vein – “Life On Umbriel.” Loosely based on a comic strip the author created decades ago (mostly to keep his kid brother out of trouble), it traces the exploits of one Jarrod Morgan, a 19th Century fugitive who seeks refuge atop the most inaccessible mountain in all of British Columbia. What sets “Life On Umbriel” apart from a typical adventure novel is its fantasy overlay; both the chief protagonist and the mountain itself possess many fantastic and unusual characteristics.

This book is no slouch in the storytelling department, either. One of Jarrod Morgan’s most dangerous pursuers, by way of example, is a psychopathic strongman whose one goal in life is to bring the former to justice. It’s utterly fascinating to be able to reach back into this character’s childhood and chart his descent into madness. Will his enormous strength and single-minded devotion to the cause be enough to counter Morgan’s own otherworldly strength (and speed, and agility)?

“Life On Umbriel” is a quality novel. Not only is it appropriate for young adults, it’s perfect for them to dissect in their high school English class. A geologist (commissioned to study the weird and wonderful “Mt. Avitah”) narrates Barker’s tale in colorful prose that is a joy for the brain to process. More information about “Life On Umbriel” can be found at the author’s website http://www.dontlikemyjob.com or most any major online bookstore. The ISBN# is 0-595-37832-3.

Paul J. Barker is best known for “Timothy’s Take-Out,” a novel that has attained something resembling cult status amongst people who don’t like their jobs. It is a masterpiece of humorous fiction and can be found, appropriately enough, at http://www.dontlikemyjob.com/pages/1/index.htm.
