Recent studies indicate that the best time for a child to learn another language is in the early years of life. Considering the growing presence of Spanish in our society today, learning the language now will certainly have lifelong benefits for young children. A teacher and mother of 2 bilingual children, Jennifer Manriquez founded The Bilingual Fun ™ Company LLC with the sole purpose of exposing young children to the Spanish language. Her first video production “Bilingual Fun, Spanish for Children” is the first released in a planned video series. . The program exposes children to the Spanish language through music, chants, singing, movement, visual stimulation and more.
Jennifer and her husband Mark, use their expertise in teaching and their own bilingual experience to create an exciting opportunity to learn Spanish. Parents and children alike enjoy the catchy songs and upbeat music, as they learn together. “My daughter immediately asks to watch the DVD again each time we finish. She has all of the songs memorized and easily repeats the vocabulary. It is amazing to see how quickly she has picked up the language from this stimulating program” says Dina Doyle, mother of 2 year old Layla.
Research continually shows the benefits of early language learning. Exposure to multiple languages at a young age enhances speaking and cognitive skills. Until early adolescence, the brain retains its plasticity, therefore allowing young children to easily absorb and retain languages. Armed with this knowledge, both as a teacher and as a parent, Jennifer started a parent/child Spanish language program in 2003. “Based on the success of my classes, I knew that there was an intense interest in learning Spanish. I decided to create the Bilingual Fun™ video series in order to give parents, educators, and caregivers a worthwhile teaching tool”, says Jennifer.
Learning Spanish is in such demand right now, and Bilingual Fun™ certainly has a promising future! In our ever changing society, parents today want to give their children every chance to succeed. It is common in the United States to begin a study of foreign language at the middle or high school level. Yet, as most know that is often too late. Exposing children at a young age to multiple languages, certainly gives them a fantastic opportunity to enrich their lives.
