Seattle, WA (PRWEB) January 27, 2006 -- Kevin Berg, born with severe Cerebral Palsy, seeks sponsors for a new wheelchair not covered by Medicare or private insurance so he may continue, and expand, his speaking ministry. He has set up a Web site at www.10MPHads.com.
Kevin Berg lives with a severe physical disability called Cerebral Palsy which confines him to a wheelchair. Together, he & his wife (Melinda) I operate a new non-profit organization in the Seattle area called "Living the Purpose" Speaking Ministries. It provides them with the most sensible way to work as Kevin requires a full-time caregiver.
The Problem:
Kevin Berg's disability presents expenses that most able-bodied people don't have to pay. The largest cost, by far, comes from his power wheelchairs. The custom-built chairs he needs cost in the range of $25,000 and $30,000, not including maintenance & repairs. He desperately needs to replace his aging wheelchair in order to continue his ministry and active lifestyle. Insurance companies now place an annual $5,000 cap on such equipment; Medicare, which Berg currently has, will only buy wheelchairs sufficient enough to go from room-to-room in the home, highly inappropriate for Kevin's needs while heavily restricting his daily activities. The wheelchair Kevin has chosen out would provide him with more independence and dignity thanks to the additional feature of a 13-inch seat elevator. This would allow him to raise himself from a standard seated height up to eye-level of most standing people, relieving neck strain and boosting his self-confidence.
The Solution:
Kevin is allowing businesses to rent advertising space on the back and sides of his current and new wheelchairs on a monthly or yearly basis, acknowledging their support in financing his chair. The sponsors recognize the many benefits for them, including:
| | - Kevin & his family draw unprecedented attention everywhere they go. You will be hard-pressed to find many other people in his condition who are married and have two children. As a result, people always watch him intently and point him out to others.
- Berg offers a personal aspect to advertising that other forms of marketing cannot offer. People often ask questions about his wheelchair, allowing him to tell them how he bought it with help from sponsors.
- Many people will intentionally do business with places that they know help others, especially on an individual basis. These same people recommend these businesses to their friends and family. By associating its name with the sponsorship of Kevin's wheelchair, a business can show proactive interest and understanding for people with disabilities.
