(PRWEB) January 29, 2006 -- The grassroots organization, The Hip-Hop Restoration Council (HHRC) issued a statement condemning the new so called “rap” album by Kevin Federline. The HHRC stated that they are not making a statement about how good or how bad the album is but rather making a point highlighting that anything and everything is being passed off as rap these days.

“It’s like someone who cannot play the piano putting together a classical album and trying to pass it off as authentic, its offensive to say the least,” said Dumi Right the Director of Operations. With the mass consumption and exponential growth of the popularity of hip-hop, everybody wants to jump on the bandwagon. This is a particularly egregious example because the media has seized upon this record only because of the fact that he’s “laying it down” with Britney Spears. Despite the fact that it has no artistic merit or redeeming value, his music is being discussed all over the web and radio and television. This is a problem because there are so many artists with real talent whose voices are never heard in the mass media. This is also reflective of a greater issue of the media only supporting negative and stereotypical rap that glorifies guns, drugs and materialism. In the case of K-Fed, his tracks are just wack.

“Back in the days you’d get jacked for being wack, nowadays cats getting dap for kicking crap” – taken from the song “Rock N Roll” on the O.U.O album of unknown origin.

The Hip-Hop Restoration Council is an organization that founded to celebrate innovation and elevation in hip-hop. The organization works within the hip-hop community with showcases, recordings and other projects to ensure that alternate voices from hip-hops roots can be heard. The HHRC is in the process or working on a project called Take Back the Mic featuring a number of well known underground hip-hop veterans. The goals of the Take Back the Mic effort are to highlight issues about who controls the agenda and voices that represent the hip-hop and urban community.
