Proctor, Minn. (PRWEB) January 29, 2006 -- Thralow, Inc., parent firm of http://www.binoculars.com, has announced purchase of the Web site http://www.spottingscopes.com.

The transaction took place Jan. 1. Purchase price was not disclosed.

Daniel Thralow, CEO of Thralow, Inc., said the transaction was in line with the firm’s strategy for increasing its lead in optics retailing, especially over the Internet.

A rapidly growing e-commerce firm, Thralow, Inc., operates 28 specialty Web sites, including not only http://www.Binoculars.com and http://www.SpottingScopes.com, but also http://www.Telescopes.com, http://www.Pans.com, http://www.Peepers.com, http://www.WeatherHunters.com, http://www.SimplyHammocks.com and many others. The company’s product line includes binoculars, telescopes, eyewear, personal weather equipment, cookware and recreational equipment in addition to spotting scopes.

Sales topped $20 million in 2005, exceeding the 2004 sales total by 57.1 percent.

Under Thralow management, the business is moving to Proctor, Minn., and sharpening its focus to concentrate almost exclusively on marketing of spotting scopes and related accessories.

According to Thralow, spotting scopes are the fastest-growing segment of the Thralow, Inc., product line. In fact, thanks in part to a revolution in digital imaging technology and surging interest in “digiscoping,” spotting scopes are rapidly becoming a “killer category.”

“The Internet is the world’s largest mall,” Thralow observed. “And, just as traditional malls of the early 1990s had ‘category killers’ (retailers predominant in a particular market segment), we will continue grow our own ‘category killers’ like SpottingScopes.com.

“We believe we can use the economy of scale of our growing, unified operation center in Proctor and still offer our customers unique specialized experiences with our category-specific Web sites. This is where online ‘department stores’ like Amazon.com, eBay and Wal-Mart are vulnerable,” added Thralow. “They don’t offer the kind of specific shopping experiences afforded by our specialty Web sites.

“We have the world’s largest selection in each of our product categories, and, what’s more, we have staff people who are knowledgeable about the products we sell. You can ask us questions, and we’ll give intelligent, informed answers. This is something that the online ‘department stores’ haven’t matched,” Thralow said.

Under Thralow, Inc., management, http://www.SpottingScopes.com will offer a full line of spotting scopes, accessories and digiscoping equipment, including products by Zeiss, Swarovski, Pentax, Nikon, Leupold, Bushnell, Simmons, Meade, Tasco, Celestron and Zhumell. Thralow, Inc., is an authorized dealer for those manufacturers and more.
