Harry Potter, Move Over!
What's the hottest new novel in the fantasy readers’ realm? A ‘starred’ review in Publishers Weekly might just provide the answer.
San Antonio, TX (PRWEB) January 30, 2006 -- Jon Baxley’s epic fantasy "The Blackgloom Bounty" from Five Star Publishing and Thorndike Press received a rare and coveted ‘starred’ review in the venerable Publishers Weekly on Monday, January 30th. Not only is this quite a feat for a debut novel, but according to John Helfers of Tekno Books (who packages books for Five Star), “This is the first time any Five Star fantasy or sci/fi novel has received that honor.” Harry Potter, move over.
Baxley’s new hard cover book started out as a modest eBook in 1999 and won numerous honors both here and in the European market. It is still one of the highest rated fantasy eBooks on MobiPocket’s German website. A full color, graphics-heavy eBook (updated) version of The Blackgloom Bounty will also be available from Twilight Times Publishing later this year.
When asked about the unexpected news of the starred PW review, Baxley replied, “Well, I was told it might happen but I certainly didn’t expect all the media, agent, and movie production interest that’s been generated in the last few days. My email box keeps filling up with more inquiries, so I have to say, Publishers Weekly certainly is the place to be reviewed. This is turning into a far bigger deal than anything I anticipated. It’s very gratifying to see ten years of work finally get the attention it deserves.”
So, what’s on the horizon for this budding novelist? The second book in the series is already well under way. Tentatively entitled "The Regents of Rhum," it continues the saga of Daynin McKinnon in his quest to unite medieval Scotland despite ghosts, gremlins and gobs of bad guys. Three more books are set to be added to the series over the next few years. If the instant success of the first one is any indication, it should be a rip-roaring adventure series filled with lots of action, mysticism and mayhem along with a cast of characters in the Conan vein and enough romance to satisfy even the non-fantasy readers who are looking for a wonderful, fast paced read. Oprah, are you listening?
Release date for the hard cover version of The Blackgloom Bounty is April 15th. For media information or to contact the author, use the email address indicated here at PRWeb. Advance orders can be placed at the Shocklines.com website and other online retailers.
