The Gods Must Be Crazy

The Horsemen Return In Time For Black History Month

"The book provides an exciting read. (Anderson) provides more than enough answers to maintain your focus, but doesn’t reveal the complete hand, leaving certain questions unanswered. The pencils and design, which are stylish and fresh."

"The Horsemen is a really good book. And, let me be very clear, that's 'a really good book' -- not ‘a really good book with minority characters and/or creators’ or anything asinine like that.”

"This book is plain and simply better than anything Crossgen did at launch."

Jiba Molei Anderson's groundbreaking title, The Horsemen, rides again in the trade paperback The Horsemen: Divine Intervention.

The Horsemen is the story of seven ordinary people thrust into extraordinary circumstances, as the gods of ancient Africa possess them. The gods have chosen them to protect humanity from themselves…whether humanity wants them to or not. They have been chosen to combat those who control the fate of the planet.

The world of The Horsemen is one of political intrigue, hip urban science fiction, and mythological fantasy where the actions of beings with immense power and extraordinary ability have reality-altering consequences.

Released in March of 2002, Griot Enterprises planted its flag on the battlefield of the comic book industry with its first title, The Horsemen. A critical success and an influential title for comic fans everywhere, the mini-series is collected for the first time in one volume called The Horsemen: Divine Intervention.

And, in an almost unprecedented move, The Horsemen: Divine Intervention will be available in three formats:

  • A full-color volume containing over 100 pages which includes the original three-issue mini-series, a new tale which expands The Horsemen universe, and an art gallery by the author with a cover by 3D artist David Riske.
  • A downloadable version of the full-color trade paperback
  • A "Manga-inspired" black and white version containing stories and extras not found in the color version with a cover by creator Jiba Molei Anderson.

"What I wanted to do was offer the fans, and new readers of The Horsemen, a choice in enjoying the series," Horsemen creator Anderson states. "Some people might not be able to afford to get the color version, or even a print version right away. And, I want to make sure that I can get as many people as possible to read this book. Plus, I wanted to give people a reason to check for the other versions of the trade by putting extras in the black and white version of the book that are not in the color version and vice-versa."

However, as many new and experienced independent publishers know, the comic book world is a rough and expensive endeavor with printing eating up most of the cost (and future profits). To that end, Anderson chose Lulu (http://www.lulu.com), the world's fastest-growing provider of print-on-demand books, as his printer.

"When I looked at the services they provided,” Anderson continues, “I'd be a fool not to print my books through Lulu. It also allows me to reach a market beyond the core demographic (i.e. the average comic book fan), which, of course, helps out the comic book industry as a whole."

The Horsemen: Divine Intervention (ISBN: 1-4116-7282-8) is available in print ($30.00) and downloadable ($9.87) now at http://www.lulu.com/griotenterprises and http://www.amazon.com. The black and white version of the book will be released at a reduced price ($19.99) the week of February 28.
