Take Note: There's a New Goddess in Town and She's Just in Time for Valentine's Day
When it came to romance and beauty, no one did it better than the goddess Venus. Immortalizing the moment in time when romance entered the world, Australian contemporary glass artist Colin Heaney has created The Venus Plate which was unveiled at the Goddess Gift website.
Johnson City, TN (PRWEB) January 31, 2006 -- When it came to romance and beauty, no one did it better than the goddess Venus. Immortalizing that moment in time when romance entered the world, Australian contemporary glass artist Colin Heaney has created the Venus Plate, unveiled today at the Goddess Shop at Goddess Gift (http://www.goddessgift.com). The collector's item is a perfect gift to celebrate Valentine's Day.
"The stunning beauty of Venus caused quite a splash when the goddess landed on the Mediterranean shores, stepping demurely from her sea shell to join the other ancient deities. No doubt about it, the arrival of the goddess signaled that romance was here to stay. How fitting that this splendid tribute to the goddess arrived just in time to make its debut for Valentine’s Day”, says Dr. Sharon Turnbull, author of the 'Myths of Aphrodite and Venus' found at http://301url.com/goddess-aphrodite-venus.
The Venus plate is the latest addition to the Colin Heaney Goddess Collection at the Goddess Gift web site, a site devoted to mythology and designed to celebrate the goddess in everywoman.
Incorporating the familiar image from Boticelli's painting, 'The Birth of Venus', the small decorative plate is made of iridized glass. Other glass art pieces in the collection include pendants, goddess shrines, and pocket-sized statues that incorporate the image of the Venus of Willendorf, the earliest depiction of the human form and ancient representation of feminine beauty.
The Venus Plate and other items in the Goddess Collection are crafted in the studio of the Australian contemporary glass artist Colin Heaney in Byron Bay, New South Wales. The artist’s innovative glass-making techniques and designs have taken his work into the homes of individual collectors, corporations, royalty, art galleries, and museums around the world.
“But the Goddess Collection,” says Turnbull, “is something very special, something that Colin created out of a sense of love and devotion. Colin made and sold these little goddess pieces during his 'starving artist' days. Though he has gone on to bigger things, he continues to create these in honor of the goddess that supported him as he developed his craft."
"Our customers, of course, are delighted that they can acquire the work of an artist of such stature at such an affordable price", she adds. The collectible art glass plate honoring Venus, the Roman goddess of romance and beauty, is available for $40 through the Goddess Gift Web site, http://301url.com/goddess-venus.
