(PRWEB) January 31, 2006 -- Author J.M. Evans and a panel of family relations specialists will host a how-to seminar for fathers who seek to gain custody of their children from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., April 15 at the University of Indianapolis, 1400 East Hanna Avenue . The event will be held in the Schwitzer Student Center Conference Rooms.
The seminar will also serve as the launch of Evans’ the Emperor Penguin: A How To Guide For Fathers Wanting Custody of Their Kids. The book discusses Evans’ experience in gaining custody of his two sons and offers resources for fathers who seek to do the same.
“ The male Emperor Penguin is the primary provider of the day-to-day protection, care, and nurturing of the baby penguin chicks and none of the other penguins in their society have anything negative to say about it. This is not the case in our human world—at least not in contemporary USA,” said Evans.
“As a single man and the father of two young boys, I was told time and time again by people who claimed to know something that the only way I could ever win custody of my kids was to prove their mothers unfit. I was disheartened, concerned, and nearly depressed at the well-ingrained notion in our society that men are presumptively lesser parents than women merely by virtue of their sex. Despite the strenuous urgings of those around me, I refused to accept that result, and set about winning custody of my kids. My victories lead me to good news and bad news, which I now want to share with other men of quality who, like you, are divorced or otherwise separated from their kids' mothers, but who want custody of their children.”
Evans believes the seminar is a fitting way to share information. Experts in family relations agree and will join Evans in walking participants through steps in the custody process and directing them to resources that will address their needs.
The seminar open to all males and females who are in a custody battle, know someone in one, or in need of information on the subject matter.
The seminar will begin with opening remarks from? Michael O. Murray, former director? Division of Family and Children? Indiana Family and Social Services Administration. Evans and attorney Larry F. Whitham will detail the steps in gaining custody before the Honorable Alicia Gooden, judge for the Paternity Division ?Marion County Circuit Court offers the luncheon keynote address.
After lunch participants will have the opportunity to attend a workshop on specific custody and parenting topics.
Those include:
-Third Party Opinions: What really goes on in the mind of a family counselor
-The Right Tool For The Job: Choosing the Right Attorney
-How to Prepare for the Court
-Arm Yourself For the Future: Attending Parenting Class
-Discussions with Men Who’ve Won and Lost Custody: Are You Really Ready to Raise Your Child?
