Terror Hunter: Hamas Using Web to Plot Destruction of Israel

After surprise election victory, Hamas still using Web to call for the extinction of Israel, warns online terror hunter Jeremy Reynalds. "Jihad to victory or martyrdom."

Albuquerque, NM (PRWEB) January 30, 2006 -- While many pundits in the Western media are predicting that Hamas will abandon violence for diplomacy following its surprise victory in the Palestinian election, author and online terrorist hunter Dr. Jeremy Reynalds warns that Internet "chatter" foretells a very different story.

Reynalds -- whose book, "War of the Web: Fighting the Online Jihad" (World Ahead Publishing; Hardcover: $25.95; ISBN 0974670170), will be published this May -- says that Hamas-affiliated Web sites continue to display messages which call for the destruction of Israel and continued use of violence.

"Western journalists and leaders who hope that Hamas will change their tune now that they have political power are hiding their heads in the sand," says Dr. Reynalds, an Albuquerque resident who is the director of a homeless shelter by day but an online terrorist hunter by night. "Hamas-affiliated Web sites are abuzz with statements like this: 'Finally, the enemy should prepare for a long battle where, God-willing, they will pay a heavy price.'"

Citing other online missives from Hamas supporters, Reynalds claims that the prospect for continued Israeli-Palestinian peace talks appears bleak. Another typical Hamas Web site that he points to contained this ominous prediction: "We will continue fighting Zionists until either the last drop of our blood or the end of Zionist occupation. It is Jihad to Victory or Martyrdom."

Dr. Reynalds is no stranger to how terrorists in general -- and Hamas in particular -- use the Internet to communicate and prepare for future attacks. He began his terror-hunting efforts in 2002 by investigating an American-hosted Web site that was soliciting donations for Kalashnikov guns and bullets for Hamas. Dr. Reynalds's subsequent efforts have led authorities to launch a pair of successful sting operations, not to mention the removal of a number of terrorist-affiliated Web sites, often unknowingly powered by U.S. hosting companies.

The bespectacled and soft-spoken Dr. Reynalds -- who emigrated from the United Kingdom to become an American citizen -- has also put his life in jeopardy while performing a service for his adoptive country. Reynalds has received multiple death threats from self-proclaimed jihadists.

"Hamas-affiliated Web sites are propaganda tools designed both to intimidate and communicate," warns Reynalds. "Election or not election, the avowed and ominous aim of Hamas remains the same: to destroy Israel."
