Actors and International Films Honored In Santa Barbara
The 21st annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival, located in California, will celebrate the careers of several actors as well as screen over 150 international films. The 11-day event, which starts on Feb.2, will also feature a number of panels consisting of directors, writers and producers.
(PRWEB) February 11, 2006 -- The festival was conveniently scheduled between Sundance and the Academy Awards, according to Roger Durling, executive director of the festival for the last three years. The event is going in a very specific direction this year. “We can’t compete with Sundance, which is happening right now. They tend to showcase the best of American independent films, so we focus more on foreign films,” said Durling. This year the festival will feature high-concept Asian horror, fantasy, and anime films through its popular “Cult Asian” sidebar; diverse Spanish and Latin American projects will also be screened. Events certain to draw high-profile crowds include tributes to George Clooney, Naomi Watts, Heath Ledger and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Clooney will receive the festival’s highest honor, the Modern Master Award, on Feb 3. Durling said during the festival the town becomes a tight-knit networking event. At the end of each event, a short audience Q&A will follow.
