'What Does That Mean' Website Gets Brilliant Makeover

WhatDoesThatMean.com ports its website content from the MediaWiki (think Wikipedia) platform to the Drupal CM system.

(PRWEB) February 1, 2006 -- If you think the word “brilliant” in that headline means something sparkly or shining, you need to visit http://www.whatdoesthatmean.com.

The collaborative What Does That Mean (WDTM) website offers help for “many cultures separated by a common language”—namely a source for information about different meanings for words and slang used by English speakers from countries around the world.

Today Scribendi.com, the sponsors of What Does That Mean, announced the rollout of a newly revamped and redesigned version of the popular language site. And now, the site is powered by Drupal, a powerful, open-source content management software from http://drupal.org. The Drupal platform gives What Does That Mean a clean, new look and a streamlined interface for members to add and modify word and phrase definitions. Because Drupal offers several levels of collaborative control, the site sponsors can ensure a consistent look to the site while adhering to the basic principles of open-source information.

The married co-founders of Scribendi.com, one of the most successful editing, proofing and translation services on the Internet, started the WDTM site to resolve some of the confusion they ran into as speakers of English raised on opposite sides of the Atlantic. Believing that language users are the best resource for what words mean, they based the site on the concept of collaborative writing, so visitors to the site can add new words and definitions and enter supporting examples and alternatives for the words supplied by others.

With editors and translators in nearly every time zone around the globe, Scribendi.com’s primary site provides a broad range of editing and proofreading services to authors, business writers and students, with turnarounds as short as 8 hours regardless of when the document arrives. Scribendi has over 200 service categories, including academic, technical and personal papers and presentations, excellent support for B2B clients, and translation services for important personal and business documents. They have perfected a close personal coaching style that authors and ESL writers have long appreciated.

Scribendi.com is based in Chatham, ON, with employees around the globe. Scribendi offers online editing, proofreading, book and screenplay critiques, and query letters. They also offer translation services in several languages, including certified translations for important documents.
