Showcare, a leading provider of products and services to the events industry, today announced that Doug Checkeris, President & CEO of The Media Company, a division of WPP’s Group M, has joined its Advisory Board.

For more than 24 years, Doug has been involved in the media business. Beginning in 1981, he started his career at MBS as a media trainee, he joined the management committee 5 years later and was promoted to Managing Partner in 1996. Following a joint venture between MBS and Grey Global’s MediaCom in 1997, The Media Company was born and has been lead by Doug ever since.

“I am happy to become an advisor to Showcare because the company represents a combination of business, technology, and innovation that is important and reflects my own priorities. Showcare has done a great job over the years and I am looking forward to helping them grow in the future," Checkeris said.

Doug has successfully pitched and run a broad range of clients spanning virtually every category, some of which include, P&G, Nokia, Warner Bros., and TD Canada Trust. Checkeris has always been active in developing many of the services now offered by MBS and The Media Company, particularly online media, corporate research and a specialized group that manages Events and Promotions.

Under his guidance, The Media Company experienced significant growth, in fact, the independent rating agency (RECMA) recent reported that The Media Company and MBS are now the largest media investment operation in Canada with media billing in excess of $700 million.

Doug holds an Economics degree from McMaster University and was recently a member of the Media Jury for the Cannes Media Lions.
