Bradenton, FL (PRWEB) February 2, 2006 -- Care2Learn, a national provider of online training and continuing education for healthcare professionals, has once again expanded its offerings. Care2Learn now offers accredited continuing education courses for Certified Dietary Managers and Certified Food Protection Professionals. The addition of this new discipline marks the first of two discipline expansions in early 2006. Billing, Coding and Compliance Professionals will be added to the roster in the month of February, increasing the number of disciplines served by Care2Learn to seventeen.
“Dietary Managers and Certified food preparation technicians are important foundations for care of the geriatric patient, since food is a vital part of the caregiving process - not just for nutrition, but for the comfort that food can bring,” says Laura More, CEO of Care2Learn.
According to the DMA website, http://www.dmaonline.org, there is an “ever-growing importance in the fields of nutrition and medicine. The idea is that foods, particularly foods that come from plants, provide health benefits we can't explain by pointing to vitamins, minerals, protein, or other traditional nutrients.” This dynamic field of study is researching functional foods, phytochemicals, nutraceuticals, and designer foods, which will lead to better understanding of the cause and effect of food and medical benefits.
Certified Dietary Managers and Certified Food Protection Professionals must earn 45 hours of continuing education every three years, with five of those hours concentrated on food safety and sanitation. Care2Learn’s current offerings include over 30 courses (over 75 hours of coursework) for CDMs and CFPPs. “Care2Learn is continuously adding new courses and working with Accreditation Bodies to get courses approved for other disciplines – all in an effort to better serve our students,” says Jeanne Chrisitian, COO, of the organization.
