Identity Theft Expert Jeff Sims to be Guest Speaker at Greater Lumberton Business Association Meeting

Jeff Sims, Burlington County, NJ Postal Inspector will speak on the topic of Identity Theft at the next meeting of the Greater Lumberton Business Association.

Lumberton, NJ (PRWEB) February 2, 2006 -- The Greater Lumberton Business Association will host a free lecture on "Identity Theft" on Wednesday, February 15th, 2006 at 5:00pm at Wachovia, Moorestown Main Branch, 91 E Main Street, Moorestown, NJ 08057. The guest speaker will be Burlington County Postal Inspector and Identity Theft expert Jeff Sims.

According to Sims, Identity theft is widely recognized as one of the fastest growing crimes today and is an important topic for businesses and consumers alike to be educated on. The discussion will feature current news and insights into identity theft and consumer privacy. Sims will also be providing advice on what consumers can do to prevent being victimized.

The Postal Inspection Service is one of the country's oldest federal law enforcement agencies and was founded in 1737. The United States Postal Inspectors protect the postal system from criminal attack and enforce over 200 federal laws pertaining to the US Mail. Inspector Sims has been a U.S. Postal Inspector for 17 years and investigates mail theft and identity theft.

Mr. Sims will cover topics such as: What identity theft is; the impact of identity theft; where criminals obtain victim's identifiers, and what citizens can do to protect themselves against ID theft. He will also be outlining some identity theft cases, which he has had the opportunity to investigate.

“The time that a victim realizes that there has been a theft varies,” said Sims. “It typically ranges from a few days to several months later when a victim learns his identity has been compromised.”

“We are fortunate to have Mr. Sims address businesses in and around Lumberton, NJ. Businesses should be educated on today’s identity theft and fraud issues in order to be better prepared to protect themselves and their customers,” said Barry Lefkowitz, President of the Greater Lumberton Business Association.
