The Original “20 Reasons To Put Your Business On The World Wide Web” Turns 10
One of the first internet marketing online guides for Web sites celebrates its 10th anniversary.
Santa Rosa, California (PRWEB) February 2, 2006 –- Back in 1995, with a little over one year of experience building internet web sites behind her, web designer Stormy Knight wanted to explain what the world wide web could offer to business people so she wrote the original “20 Reasons To Put Your Business on the World Wide Web” as a marketing tool for her company – Net 101.
“It was like the wild west back then,” says Stormy, “Most people had never heard of email marketing or the internet and trying to convince a business owner they should spend a lot of money on a new unproven concept like a web site was difficult.”
According to Stormy, “My husband had just left a long time career in the banking industry to help me start Net 101 and he tried to convince his ex-employers that they could save thousands of dollars on telephone and fax bills by switching to email instead of faxing their reports across the country, but no one could visualize it at the time.”
So Stormy decided to educate the masses. She sat down and wrote out the full 20 reasons in 2 days, using the internet itself to provide the answers she was seeking for her research. The “Reasons” include things that now seem obvious but at the time were groundbreaking, such as providing a “presence” for your business, networking your business with others, making information readily available to clients and customers and providing 24 hour services without having to actually have an employee available. These things are taken for granted now, but were relatively unheard of in the early 90’s.
Soon after publishing the “20 Reasons,” Yahoo! made it a Cool Site of the Day and traffic soared. Net 101 developed an ongoing client base and Stormy became a sought after speaker on email, search engine and internet marketing.
Since 1995, the “20 Reasons To Put Your Business on the World Wide Web” have been translated into many languages including French, Spanish, Russian and German. The U.S. Government’s SCORE web site was granted permission to publish it where it still is referenced by thousands of people as a guide to help them better market their web sites.
