BELMONT, CA (PRWEB) February 10, 2006
Dave Alber showcases his artwork next to gorgeously written essays on mythology with the Mythic Eye Press publication of Myth & Medium: The Art of Dave Alber.
Myth & Medium: The Art of Dave Alber is a lavishly illustrated art book focusing on mythological themes. The 72-page, 8 1/2 x 11 book displays over fifty pieces of art in a variety of medium. Myth & Medium also contains information about the art and artist, plus three related essays: The Myth of Prometheus; Frame, Crucible, Cosmos: Seeing Through the Boundaries of Epic; and The Discriminating Yoga of the Tiger’s Psyche: Captain Sir Richard Francis Burton’s Tantric Adventure. Myth & Medium is available for purchase at Amazon.
“My compositions are translucent to mythological themes,” says Alber. “I believe that the artist and participant themselves must be translucent mediums if they are to experience and transmit an expression of eternal values. That is the point to my work.”
“Dave Alber’s Myth and Medium blends art with myth. His images and essays challenge the viewer to commune with the eternal values of our shared mythological heritage,” says Ginette Paris, Ph.D., author of Pagan Grace (Spring Publications, 1985) and Pagan Meditations (1989).
“Alber’s work is grounded in the notion of myth-making itself. The personal and the interpersonal mix and mesh, to become something new, something that breaks the static desires of culture itself, ” says Maggie Macary, Ph.D. creator of Myth & Culture.
Dave Alber has exhibited his art in Naples (Italy), Georgia, and California. He studied under the children’s book Illustrator Debrah Santini. He has a B.A. in Fine Art concentrating in Printmaking and an M.A. in Mythological Studies. The founder of Mythic Eye Press, he recently finished two novels, and the poetry book To the Dawn.
ABOUT MYTHIC EYE PRESS
Founded in 2005, Mythic Eye Press is devoted to publishing outstanding new works of mythological theory and praxis. Mythic Eye Press is the brain and heart child of Hemila Pedram and Dave Alber, M.A. We wanted to publish works that communicate that mythology is a field of experience much larger than that of an object of academic study or a tool for psychology. The experience of mythology as being something greater than our limited expectations is what is communicated through Mythic Eye Press publications. For example, To the Dawn is a mythopoetic resacrilization of history and cosmology, which is not inconsistent with modern science. Myth & Medium offers a spiritual, even mystical, way of communing with art through myth. At Mythic Eye Press, we honor and appreciate the abundance that is to be discovered in a relationship with mythology. We hope you will too.
