“We looked at the market and saw an obvious need for a 4-star lifestyle experience that effortlessly blends affordability, stylish accommodations, spa and wellness with hip food and beverage and entertainment options, all within popular secondary markets. We like to call the experience “tranquil chic,” states Marx.
Marx boasts an illustrious career in the hospitality industry, having established himself as an innovator in the 1990’s when he led San Francisco-based Kimpton’s hotel division. Under his direction, Kimpton hotels evolved from a regional operator with 12 hotels into one of the largest and most successful lifestyle hotel development company in the United States with over 30 hotels at the time throughout the United States and Canada. In addition, Marx was also instrumental in launching the Monaco hotel brand for Kimpton, which is regarded by many in the industry the defining 4-diamond lifestyle hotel concept.
From Kimpton, Marx went on to serve as Executive Vice President of Operations for Loews Hotels for two years. At that time, Marx joined Starwood to become Senior Vice President of W Hotels Worldwide. During his tenure at W Hotels, Marx led the brand to unprecedented success as the most dominant lifestyle brand to emerge in the industry. Marx transformed W into Starwood’s most profitable brand.
With new goals in mind, Marx moved on to be an instrumental force in launching the newest national lifestyle brand, James Hotels, with noted restaurateur Steve Hanson.
