New Novel, 'Cybernetica,' Explores the Technological Future of Mind Control

Arcanum Books Inc. announces a new novel entitled, "Cybernetica", by Michael J. Cavallaro, to be released on February 15.

New York, NY (PRWEB) February 7, 2006 -- Arcanum Books Inc. announces a new novel entitled, "Cybernetica," by Michael J. Cavallaro, to be released on February 15.

Two conmen hired in a major investigation. A famous actress marked for corporate assassination. One biologically enhanced bodyguard wrangled by a moral dilemma. In a future where neurological actions, and events, are influenced by a widespread brain-to-computer interface system called sublimation, the convergence of these four paths will lead to a reckoning between factions vying for global power.

Thirty-five years after the devastating Encryption Wars, the rise of sublimation from the city of Cybernetica has left a criminal subculture brewing—those who fall outside its technological parameters of control. Now, following the first successful cyber attack in its history, a group of insurgents called the drifters are aiming to destroy and recreate the very civilization it supports. In a world of covert wars, corporate dealings, and government corruptions, there are those who not only hold the fate of the future...but the secrets of the past.

"Cybernetica" is a novel that explores an ominous future based upon the privacy rights issues of today. Several years ago, the Institute of Policy Studies listed the top 100 economic entities in the world, naming 51 as corporations over countries. Given our present global climate, readers will enjoy a suspenseful, semi-fictionalized account of:

  • How people are controlled in the future (i.e. wiretapping the brain).

  • Technology as an application to these methods of control.

  • Corporations striving to act as government.

  • A history of computer hacking.

  • The philosophical implications and struggle of the individual against the will of the collective.

Cybernetica is a science fiction novel that picks up where George Orwell’s 1984 left off, a cautionary tale of Big Brother striving to further itself as an omnipresent force, one both frightening and meaningful enough to resonate with readers in the world of today.
