The Children’s Healthcare Foundation of South Jersey (CHF) and host sponsor Acorn Dental Associates, PA present “Strikes & Tykes: Bowl-A-Thon and Billiards Benefit” on Saturday, March 4, 2006, from 1-3pm at the Playdrome, 1535 N. Kings Highway, Cherry Hill. A portion of proceeds from the event will provide support and comfort for children affected/effected by terminal illness, and will work to improve the quality of life for children living with a disease, disorder or disability. The CHF will accomplish this goal by helping children with cancer, their siblings, and bereaved siblings, children with HIV/AIDS, and ventilator dependant children.

“Strikes & Tykes brings together teams, families, college groups and high school students – all raising money to help our community’s most fragile children,” said Executive Director Kory Michael Aversa. “It’s a unique event for everyone to come together on behalf of these special needs children, while also having a great time and enjoying a day of food, music, prizes and more.”

Sign-in begins at Noon. Bowling and billiards begin at 1pm. Participants will enjoy two hours of unlimited bowling or pool, pizza, soda, snacks and incentive prizes. Participants will also win prizes based upon how much money they raise, including shirts, buttons, umbrellas, movie tickets, shopping sprees, iPods, etc. Prizes will also be awarded to the child, adult and team that raises the most money, bowls the highest score and has the most “spirit.” B101.1 FM and the Buzz Bee will meet and greet participants, play music, and provide photo opportunities, games and special prizes. “The Honest Deceptionist,” magician Michael Scanzello, will mystify with his tableside magic routine. Fancy Faces by Michelle will offer face painting.

Funds raised from “Strikes” benefit CHF programs, including special grants to the following:

  • Camp No Worries - A camp for children with cancer who are in current treatment that is afflicting their lives, or who are in remission. Counselors discretely intermingle discussion of issues surrounding their illness and psychological implications within activities like arts and crafts, sports, horseback riding, etc. Activities also encourage the development of important peer bonds.
  • Bright Feathers Camp sponsored by YMCA Camp Ockanickon, Inc. - SJ children affected/effected by HIV/AIDS find a safe and alternative environment to isolation and detachment. It is a social and recreational option that is drug free and provides relief from the stressful environment often experienced by the children, while empowering the children to discover their own uniqueness and potential.
  • NJ WAVE - Ventilator dependant teens overcome the anxiety of leaving home and traditional caretakers, while having fun and enjoying summer activities.

“The bowl-a-thon and billiards event continues to be a resource for children when no other avenue exists,” said Aversa. “Money raised stays local to help provide for our children’s well being.”

“Strikes and Tykes” is presented by the Children’s Healthcare Foundation, with support from host sponsor Acorn Dental Associates, PA, and media sponsor B101.1 FM.
