3 ivy league entrepreneurs have created the world’s first online memorial to love at http://www.greatwalloflove.com. The site aim to fill 9,999 cells with personalized declarations of love. When the wall is completed, it will be locked in perpetuity for posterity, as a time capsule of the feelings of the participants and as one of the internet wonders of the modern world. The idea was struck upon after the trio discovered the “Make Internet History” concept of The Million Dollar Homepage and decided it had a more powerful role as a memorial to love and fundraiser for charity.

The Great Wall of Love, the world’s first online memorial to love, officially launches today. The Great Wall of Love, located at http://greatwalloflove.com, enables lovers throughout the world to broadcast their love by purchasing a space on the wall to dedicate to someone they love. Their space is a 10 by 10 pixel square, called a cell, that, when moused over, displays a heart that contains a picture of their love and a short message. The 10 by 10 cell is itself a miniaturized version of their picture, which, when the site is completed, will become a poignant visual representation of the loves that the wall houses.

For the first 500 cells, the price to purchase a unit is $25. After this, the price will be raised to $100.

As of launch, 30 cells have already been filled. 18 units have been used to broadcast loves for significant others, 11 units have been used to immortalize friendships, family members, or pets, and one unit is dedicated to the Superbowl XL Champion Steelers.

The site offers an easy to follow guide for choosing your cell and heart, providing your message, and uploading your image. Participants are then directed to Paypal to complete their order. After a cell is purchased, there are tools for sharing your cell with others via email, blogs, or chatting services.

Inspired by The Milllion Dollar Homepage (http://milliondollarhomepage.com), The Great Wall of Love was created by three friends, Jason Bosinoff, Jared Morgenstern, and Eddie Lim as a way to immortalize their feelings for the ones they love in internet history. The trio met while at Harvard and MIT and aim to give a portion of the proceeds to charity and are in the process of selecting a charity that is most aligned with the goals of The Great Wall of Love.

Jared and Eddie are successful entrepreneurs, having sold their social networking site Metails.com in 2004. This is Jason's first entrepreneurial venture since biking across America in 2003.
