Big White Continues Winning Streak

Hot off the tails of snaring Luxury Travel Magazine’s gold award for the number seven ski destination in the world, Big White’s accolades keep rolling in.

(PRWEB) February 10, 2006 -- The hotly coveted 2006 winter edition of Ski Canada Magazine, titled “Best of Skiing in Canada" sings Big White’s praises with awards in the following categories (excerpt courtesy Ski Canada Magazine).

Best Place to Drop off the Kids and Get their Gear – Big White has now integrated its kids’ rental facility with the Kids Centre instruction area. Get the kids kitted out and ready for lessons in one easy step.

Best Party to get a Local’s Invite – The Shed Party at Big White is an annual invite-only shindig that features Valdy, who’s a regular at the resort each winter.

Best Place to Celebrate Australia Day – Snowshoe Sam’s at Big White rocks with aussie aussie aussie/oy, oy, oy each January 24 as the Big White Aussie staff let down their hair – and dye it green and gold.

Best Grooming
Best Terrain Park (West) Best Place for an Old-fashioned Outdoor Hockey Game
Best Family Skiing - Big White
Best Place to Fly and Ski on the Same
Best Place for Boys to Play with Heavy Machinery - At Big White last summer, more than 30,000 truckloads of fill were dumped onto 14 runs on Gem Lake. Apparently this makes for smooth runs – and happy Dumptruck Dans.

With a record-breaking Christmas and New Year period, it’s still not too late to enjoy the world famous Okanagan champagne powder. At Big White the emphasis is on family fun, with something to cater for everyone. That’s why it has also been acknowledged has having the best kids club in North America.

"I was quite apprehensive about taking young family to ski in Canada but it was an absolute dream,” says mother of three, Vicki Ridgewell. “My husband or I simply dropped the kids off in the mornings and they were cared for and expertly taught skiing or snowboarding until they were picked up in the afternoon. And guess what, they loved it! No fights about going, they were bundling us out the door to be there in time.”

Situated close to Kelowna in British Columbia's Okanagan Valley, the main street is actually a ski run, where you can ski right to your doorstep, meander through the village, sip hot chocolate or dine in world-class restaurants and pubs.

There are 118 patrolled runs, groomed runs are prepared nightly and green runs can be accessed from every lift, so even a beginner can experience the thrill of big mountain skiing. Ski lessons for all levels are also available as well as night skiing. When it’s time for the chairlifts to close, the après ski begins and the resort comes alive with bands and entertainment at most clubs and pubs.

And Big White is not just about skiing. Why not try ice skating, snow tubing, snowshoeing mini skidoos (for the kids), snowboarding or the mega snow coaster? Don’t forget to join the weekly torchlight parade, watch the fireworks spectacular or perhaps you’d prefer to win prizes at the kids’ carnival night, or even indulge in a soothing massage or aesthetics treatment?

The accommodation is also nothing short of spectacular. Big White Snow Condo in the Legends Building sleeps at least 12 and is decked out with the latest mod cons. Enjoy incredible views over the mountains while relaxing in a spa on the balcony sipping champagne or a cold beer and watching the sunset.
