METTLER TOLEDO has announced the 2006 seminar and course schedule of its popular Insight! Education program (http://www.mt.com/insight) open to all laboratory professionals. Insight! Application Seminars are held at convenient hotel and conference venues across North America and offer an affordable, useful, educational experience in various disciplines focused on scientific theory, practical application, working use, and troubleshooting using a multimedia, lecture and demonstration format.

Insight! User Training Courses are held at several METTLER TOLEDO training centers where students learn functional hands-on skills on various METTLER TOLEDO laboratory instruments along with requisite scientific theory supplemented using lab work. The program again includes popular seminars and courses in titration, weighing, thermal analysis, software applications and - new for 2006, the Lab Fundamentals application seminars.

Fundamentals of Measurement in the Analytical Laboratory (Seminar #LF-PTS), presented in association with Rainin Instruments, focuses on the principles, techniques, solutions and troubleshooting skills required to make good pH, weight, density and refractive index measurements and to improve participants' liquid handling results. Instrument focus is on pH meters, analytical and micro balances, digital density meters and refractometers, and on mechanical and electronic pipettes. Topics include pH measurement, electrode selection and maintenance, correct selection and use of analytical and micro balances, improving pipette accuracy and related liquid handling skills -- including ergonomics, and density and refractive index principles and measurement technique.

Fundamentals of Moisture Measurement (Application Seminar #LF-MST) offers an in-depth exploration of key quantitative methods of moisture content determination including loss-on-drying (LOD), chemical, and thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA) techniques. Focus is on several LOD differential weighing techniques and associated technologies, Karl Fischer titration, TGA for moisture and its curve interpretation, and includes an exploration of the advantages and disadvantages of each method's suitability to various sample types. Participants can discover new possibilities, solutions and ideas for improving their moisture analysis results and their productivity.

Says Tom Butta, METTLER TOLEDO Business Manager for the program, "Based on experience with our customers, budgetary and other challenges have organizations increasingly looking to outside resources for quality training," Butta adds, "these new seminars and the other course offerings provide a great way for lab professionals and their organizations to obtain core instruction or help meet continuing education objectives." More than a primer, the Lab Fundamentals are presented by highly qualified subject matter experts with years of experience who can facilitate both the novice and experienced lab professional's learning with in-depth topic exploration and lively discussion. With emphasis toward improving results in the lab, the seminars provide opportunity for participants to learn and augment skills needed to perform these "fundamental" measurements required in virtually all research, QA/QC or R&D labs.

In addition to the new seminars, the extremely popular "Modern Methods" series returns in 2006. "Modern Methods of Titration Analysis" (Application Seminar # MMTA-LAP) covers potentiometric (general) titration while "Karl Fischer Moisture Analysis for Better Results" (Application Seminar #MMTA-KF) provides a complete education in this important titration method of sample water analysis. User Training Courses at METTLER TOLEDO training centers for 2006 include the "Titration Essentials" courses covering training on specific model METTLER TOLEDO titrators (User Training Courses #TE5X7X and #TEKF3X), "STARe Thermal Analysis" (User Training Course #TA-STAR) on the STARe thermal analysis system from METTLER TOLEDO, and "LabX pro User/Administrator" (User Training Course #LXPUA) covering instruction on the highly popular LabX instrument control and data acquisition software platform from METTLER TOLEDO. As a special offer, customers purchasing a qualifying titrator during 2006 are eligible to attend a corresponding Titration Essentials course at no charge with their purchase (valued up to $1,050.00).

A third category of Insight! Education -- Pick-and-Mix Training, is again offered by popular demand. Pick-and-Mix allows businesses to bring METTLER TOLEDO expertise on-site to their location to maximize value and minimize hassle when training is needed for larger numbers such as a work group -- or even the entire laboratory staff. Customers can choose any Application Seminar or User Training Course, select from an extended list of on-site courses, or choose from over 30 prepared modules in various METTLER TOLEDO competencies to design a day or more of customized training to meet their particular needs.
