Myrtle Beach Makes Changes to Attract May Golfers

Ocean Isle Beach Courses offer less noise and clutter

Myrtle Beach, SC (PRWEB) February 10, 2006 -- In 1994, May was among the top three travel months for golf in Myrtle Beach (http://www.mbgolf.com), but over the past 12 years the numbers have slowly declined. Myrtle Beach's late May demographic is now largely made up of two bike weeks that run from May 15 to the end of the month. With the noise and traffic at a peak, many golfers choose to pick the months of March, April and June now instead of those May dates.

This May 2006, in order to increase golf visitors, Myrtle Beach Golf, LLC (www.mbgolf.com) will be offering golfers incentives to stay in Ocean Isle Beach, just minutes north of North Myrtle Beach, where golfers will find little, if any, biker traffic.

The Ocean Isle Beach area runs from Calabash North Carolina to Oak Island, NC. With few high rise hotels, the landscape is largely dotted with single family Oceanfront beach homes and 2 bedroom golf course condos. The weather in May is always good and the courses are always in prime condition. Golfers who stay this May will be rewarded with 40% discounts on Sea Trail, Carolina National, Thistle, and Rivers Edge and upgraded to luxury condos on Crow Creek Golf Course and Sandpiper Bay Village. This location is ideal for golfers who want to be on the course in peak season, but out of the noise and clutter. Vacationers from Virginia, North Carolina and Maryland have discovered this area in the past 5 years and now make up to 60 % of Ocean Isle's visitors in May.

The City of Myrtle Beach settled a long disputed lawsuit concerning one bike week with the NAACP this week (visit www.mbgolf.com for details). Resolving this settlement was critical to Myrtle Beach Oceanfront Hotel owners who depend on the biker revenue as a large part of their annual income. May will continue to be a strong month for Motorcycle tourists in the central Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach areas.

Golf business in downtown Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach should continue to decline in late May as more and more bikers have filled available room nights almost to capacity as early as February 8, 2006. The competition for rooms during these weeks is fierce and the Bike Rally clubs and vendors get organized early.

Several golf courses have considered closing during these few weeks and some golf courses have taken the opportunity to overseed their greens as bikers have traditionally not taken the opportunity to golf while in Myrtle Beach.

Because bikers limit their destination strictly to the Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach general areas, golfers have taken the new found opportunity to golf the popular tracts that make up Ocean Isle Beach.

Gene Blanton, of Sandpiper Bay Golf Links in Ocean Isle stated "This is our best month for golf. The weather is perfect and we are finding lot's of guests who want to be at the beach and on the course." "Tee times are also just off peak, so our prices are better and our golfers can play at a more relaxed pace" "It's definitely the month I would choose, if I were coming with a group."

Myrtle Beach Golf, LLC represents over 100 Myrtle Beach area golf courses and over 1147 Myrtle Beach area rental condominiums. For details about golfing in Ocean Isle in late May visit www.mbgolf.com
