As DHL Logistics Grows from DPWN's Acquisition of Exel, CEO John Allan Speaks with Global Institute of Logistics Editor Stephen Tierney

Optimistic Allan commits to technology investment - but it's people who will make the difference.

(PRWEB) February 10, 2006 -- The Chief Executive of the world’s largest logistics company believes people will be the deciding factor in the competition between his company and its rivals.

John Allan, CEO of DHL Logistics — the company that is growing out of the acquisition of his former company, Exel Logistics, by DHL’s parent company, Deutsche Post World Net, at the end of last year — said in his latest interview, with the Global Institute of Logistics, that his company was committed to significant investment in new technology.

Logistics service providers face the challenges of meeting demand from their customers for better IT capability, and of combining separate IT landscapes.

But Allan added that, as mergers and acquisitions continue amongst most of the major players in this market, making sure the different groups of people work effectively together may be an even tougher challenge.

He said: “It’s very difficult to generalise, but of course it’s true that when companies combine, it does bring different cultures together. What we are keen to achieve is the amicable blending together of all the talents and skills we now have available to us.”

He went on to suggest that how well his company and its rivals achieve this aim will be an important differentiating factor between them.
