Creditmonster.co.uk loses a director due to unexpected changes in search engine rankings. It is a story that keeps repeating but search engines can have seriously detrimental effects on peoples livelihoods and their futures.

Some people may have heard of Creditmonster, most may not. And for those that haven't, it’s hardly surprising. For a very brief spell, Creditmonster.co.uk was the UK's No.1 website for car loans for a number of searches on a number of search engines.

Let it not be said that this was nothing of a surprise to the owners of Creditmonster.co.uk for it was in fact a very surprising outcome and one that warranted much attention.

For many days after the websites appearance at the top of numerous search engines for the popular search phrase ‘car loans’, Creditmonster.co.uk was in great demand. Many web users were suddenly expecting great things from the website and were hoping to end their search for a car loan without having to sift through pages and pages of lists.

It may have already been mentioned that the sites sudden success was a shock to the owners and so they set about toiling night and day to ensure the site had valuable content and useful direction for the aforementioned web browsers. Even to the extent of entering into to more agreements with many popular lenders.

And lo, all was well and the site was proving to be a great success passing the details of the needy to the providers of the required. Small business and large business were all profiting from the benefit the site provided to its visitors. It was good for the people and good for the companies. The people got their money and the businesses got their all important customers.

Everyone was happy.

The site owners were busy continually improving the site and adding more products for people to choose from, faxing applications here, there and everywhere to make sure people were getting the best attention. Processes were set in place and heels were burning.

And for the benefit of those that still think this is a success story, all of a sudden, the search engines changed their minds.

The website no longer ranked at the top. The website was banished to the ‘back pages’ of the search results. And nobody knows why.

There were no underhand tactics being used to trick the search engines, (you hear a lot about it in the news these days) there was nothing being added to the site that could trick the visitors. Only good, thoughtful, useful improvements.

So what next?

Well, the businesses that Creditmonster furnished with enquiries are still doing OK because they’re big and didn’t rely on the additional income they started to receive. The small businesses are also still doing OK but not as well as they could have been and the directors of Creditmonster.co.uk, well, they have long since torn out their hair, downgraded their cars, dramatically reduced their outgoings, tightened their purse and agreed to part company after two years of hard work and development.

There are several lessons to be learned from all this.

1.    Don’t rely on natural search engine rankings for your income.

2.    Other forms of online advertising are highly important for a successful website.

3.    Hard work doesn’t always pay off.

4.    ‘Life is a roller-coaster you just gotta ride it.’

One might expect that to be the end but no, there is still hope. If the site had what it takes to command prominence with the mighty SE’s then surely it can once more.

So by employing new tactics and restructuring the company's staff to include one less director, it is anticipated the website will once again provide a service to web surfers seeking car loans and additional revenue for businesses in the near future.

The remaining director is the founding director and although unavailable for comment he has a track record in maintaining top ranking websites in the finance sector and despite a rocky road ahead for Creditmonster.co.uk, he is determined to turn things around.
