Film Fund Management Firm Premiers at Berlin Film Festival

Heath Ledger, star of Golden-Globe winning feature film Brokeback Mountain, led the cast of Pacific Continental Fund Management-backed movie Candy at a red-carpet premier at the Berlin Film Festival on Wednesday 15 February.

(PRWEB) February 18, 2006 -- Heath Ledger, star of Golden-Globe winning feature film Brokeback Mountain, led the cast of Pacific Continental Fund Management (PCFM)-backed movie Candy at a red-carpet premier at the Berlin Film Festival on Wednesday 15 February. The Pacific Continental Fund Management Film Opportunities Fund invested in Candy to finance the film’s post-production.

Candy tells the story of a decade-long love affair between Candy and Dan against a background of heroin addiction. Starring Heath Ledger as Dan and Abbie Cornish as Candy (Everything Goes, Somersault and One Perfect Day) the film also stars Geoffrey Rush (Munich, The Life & Death of Peter Sellers and Pirates of the Caribbean).

Made by Renaissance Films, Candy was directed by award-winning theatre director Neil Armfield and was backed by the Film Finance Corporation of Australia.

The Pacific Continental Fund Management Film Opportunities Fund was launched in February 2005 and invests in gap finance for film. It aims to deliver a fixed return from debt finance which is not dependant on the underlying success of the feature film. It has delivered +16.81% capital growth in the 10 months since launch (February 2005) to 31 December 2005.

The Film Finance Fund has also invested in ‘M’ and Tooth. Mushroom Pictures’ ‘M’ is a contemporary version of Shakespeare’s Macbeth starring Sam Worthington (The Surgeon, Love My Way and Thunderstruck). Tooth, starring Yasmin Paige, Harry Enfield, Vinny Jones, Stephen Fry and Richard E Grant tells the adventures of a modern-day tooth fairy.

Peter Phelan, Head of Fund Management, Pacific Continental says:
“With the Film Opportunities Fund we have created an investment which provides the opportunity for low risk capital growth with the added thrill of backing major motion pictures.

“The beauty of the Film Opportunities Fund is that its capital growth is based on a fixed investment return from the debt finance. This means that the underlying success of the film makes no difference to the funds growth. We are however delighted to see that Candy has been showcased with a premiere at the Berlin Film Festival, which will give an extra fillip of excitement to the fund’s backers”

Pacific Continental Fund Management also manages the Skylight Capital Build Up Fund which invests in residential property in the north of England. It was launched in February 2004 and specialises in distressed property opportunities. It has delivered +21.64% capital growth in the 12 months to 31 December 2005 and +43.72% capital growth since launch (March 2004).
