Alan Hegburg and Frank Verrastro: The Geopolitics of Energy -- A Forward View

The World Future Society has presented several roundtables on the future of energy technology. Today, with wars in the Middle East as well as China and India emerging on the world stage as industrial giants, energy is an issue for international relations now in the the foreseeable future.

Recent films such as "Syriana" highlight the international political tensions competition for energy resources present our world now and potentially in the future. How will the world meet its future energy needs and how will that impact geopolitical relationships?

Experts in the changing geopolitics of world energy markets, Alan Hegburg and Frank Verrastro will present to WFS and you our guests:

Our speakers are world reknown experts in the topic of enrguy and its future. Mr. Alan Hegburg is a Senior Associate at the Scowcroft Group and a Senior Fellow in Energy at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington D.C. In the private sector, Hegburg spent 17 years in management positions in Phillips Petroleum Company, Amoco Corporation and BP as manager of international government relations and as Director of International and Geopolitical Analysis.

Mr. Frank Verrastro is director and senior fellow in the Center for Strategic and International Studies Energy Program. He has extensive energy experience, having spent 25 years in energy policy and project management positions in the U.S. government and the private sector. His government service includes staff positions in the White House (Energy Policy and Planning Staff) and the Departments of Interior (Oil and Gas Office) and Energy (Domestic Policy and International Affairs Office), including serving as director of the Office of Producing Nations and deputy assistant secretary for international energy resources. In the private sector, Mr. Verrastro has served as director of refinery policy and crude oil planning for TOSCO (formerly the nation's largest independent refiner) and more recently as senior vice president for Pennzoil.
