Capella University Appoints Two New Deans

The online university’s Harold Abel School of Psychology and School of Human Services welcome new leaders.

Capella University, an accredited* online university, announces the appointments of two new deans. Garvey House, PhD, has been appointed dean of Capella’s Harold Abel School of Psychology, and Christopher Cassirer, ScD, MPH, has been appointed dean of the School of Human Services.

Before being appointed dean of the Harold Abel School of Psychology, House had served as faculty chair of Capella's educational psychology specialization and colloquia lead/faculty development specialist. He joined Capella University in 1999 as an adjunct faculty member. House has a PhD in educational psychology with a computer science cognate from Texas A & M University-Commerce and has prior experience in both higher education and private industry research and management.

Cassirer joined Capella’s School of Human Services as a faculty director in 2005 and served as interim dean of the school before being appointed to the permanent position in February 2006. He is an internationally recognized teacher, researcher, and senior administrator with expertise in medical malpractice, risk and quality management, patient safety, executive leadership programs, and business and management strategy. He completed both his doctoral and post-doctoral training in health policy and management at the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health and holds a Master of Public Health in health policy and management from the Yale University School of Medicine.
