GUI Builder for Eclipse 3.1 and UltraLightClient Released

Build Rich Internet Applications (RIA) visually using Canoo’s ULC Visual Editor.

Basel, Switzerland (PRWEB) February 24, 2006 -- ULC Visual Editor 5.0 for Eclipse 3.1 is now available for download from the Canoo website (http://www.canoo.com/ulc/downloads/visualeditor50.html). This new release is the first version that runs with Eclipse 3.1 and the Eclipse Visual Editor 1.1. Porting to Eclipse 3.1 has greatly improved the overall performance and stability of the tool. Use this editor to visually compose Rich Internet Applications (RIA).

Java’s industrial strength for Rich Internet Applications

ULC Visual Editor is a "drag-and-drop" user interface designer for UltraLightClient, a Java library for Rich Internet Application (RIA) development (http://www.canoo.com/ulc/). The library uses Swing on the client, standard communication protocols set by the J2EE container, and standard lifecycle management on the server. The principal design is based on the half-object and protocol design pattern. Applied to Swing, this pattern is used to offer the Swing API in a server-side programming model, providing rich user interfaces in a web architecture (http://javadesktop.org/articles/canoo/index.html). UltraLightClient is a pure Java-based alternative to other RIA technologies such as AJAX and Macromedia Flex. Leveraging Java’s industrial strength, UltraLightClient excels in characteristics like maintainability of code, reliability, scalability, performance, and security. UltraLightClient-based applications are an ideal choice for corporate Intranet applications or B2B applications running over the Internet.

New features

New ULC Visual Editor features include:

  • Improved startup performance when opening a visual class,
  •
  • Support for ULCFiller,
  •
  • New class wizard to generate ULC applications,
  •
  • Limited "Copy & Paste" functionality.

Pricing

ULC Visual Editor is available for purchase at http://www.canoo.com/ulc/. A developer license costs US$ 499. A free evaluation license can be ordered for a 30 day period. The editor requires UltraLightClient 6.0 and Eclipse 3.1. For more information please see the product description or contact Canoo directly.
