Minding Our Elders: Non-fiction Book Provides a Portable Support Group for Caregivers

For over 20 years, Carol Bradley Bursack cared for a neighbor and six elderly family members. Her experience inspired her to write "Minding Our Elders: Caregivers Share Their Personal Stories." "Minding Our Elders" contains six stories of Bursack's experiences and interviews with 20 other caregivers. The stories are self-contained, intimate, powerful and brief - for maximum impact and support.

Fargo, ND (PRWEB) February 25, 2006 -- Columnist/author/speaker Carol Bradley Bursack, author of Minding Our Elders: Caregivers Share Their Personal Stories has been interviewed on national radio shows, and by journalists interested in elder care. She has also written articles on elder care and speaks frequently at conferences and workshops. Minding Our Elders has been chosen as a text for college gerontology classes as a vehicle to humanize the caregiving experience to students.

Bursack is an elder care columnist and a Toastmasters trained public speaker. Her radio interviews include The Bev Smith Show, Radio Health Journal, The Tom Pope Show, The Tommy B. Show and Coping with Caregiving (clip on www.mindingourelders.com). She speaks at many workshops and conferences.

According to a 2004 study by AARP and the National Alliance for Caregiving, over 44 million people age 18 and over provide care to another adult. Most are happy to help, but caregiving can become an overwhelming addition to an already busy life. People need support. It was caregivers who inspired and encouraged Bursack, a 20 year veteran of caregiving, to write Minding Our Elders: Caregivers Share Their Personal Stories.

Minding Our Elders is a portable support group. Grieving begins when adult children start to see their parents' decline. They need support through the whole process. Minding Our Elders: Caregivers Share Their Personal Stories keeps that support at the caregiver's fingertips. Three in the morning and you can't call a friend? No problem. Log onto www.mindingourelders.com for a support chat. Sign up to talk with the author. Pick up Minding Our Elders and read. The storytellers in the book understand. Read one story. Read two. Feel the comfort and support of others who have gotten through this. Tomorrow is another day.

Bursack is a member of AARP, CAPS (Children of Aging Parents), the National Caregivers Advisory Panel and the National Family Caregivers Association. She is on the advisory board of RSVP (The Retired Senior Volunteer Program).

Minding Our Elders: Caregivers Share Their Personal Stories is the perfect educational tool to humanize the experiences of caregiving families to students of social work, gerontology and family relations. The support aspect makes the book ideal for churches, hospital gift shops and caregiver support groups.
