PDC holds fundamental patents in multiple interface technologies on both memory product controller and memory products itself, while KTC holds fundamental patents in multiple interface memory card readers. The partnership by both companies will close the nets to global IP on multiple interface technologies as patents are owned not only in Taiwan but also on a global scale.

Power Digital Card Co., Ltd (PDC) and Key Technology Corporation (KTC) choose to announce the completion of licensing on multiple interface technologies today.

According to Shimon Chen, Chairman of KTC, “After reviewing PDC’s patent pool, we find that they have strong fundamental backing in their multiple interface technology on controllers and final products. As we have strong standing on multiple interface card reader technology, the cross licensing between both companies is more than perfect.”

According to Jerry Chen, Chairman of PDC of, “PDC has used a lot of efforts to protect our IPs on a global basis. Our patents relate to different areas as form factor, mechanical structure, and controller. One of our products launched this year using our IP as protection basis is the Personal Storage Disc (PSd). This is a dual interface product which utilizes both memory card and USB interfaces to replace conventional memory cards and USB Flash disks. This concept has been widely accepted by industry players and end users as it proves to be simple, convenient, and easy to use. PDC will be providing licensing only to a few players to protect our partners and our customers. We have also built up a strong legal team to back up our IPs against controller design or card manufacturing companies whom may infringe our patents. The IPs owned by KTC for multiple interface card reader will complete the whole picture to close the link on multiple interface technology. We are very happy to have KTC as partner and our relationship will bring both companies closer for future development on next generation technologies.
