Romancing the O.C. with Podcasting

Orange County Romance Writers launch a monthly Podcast to keep their members up-to-date with the industry. The SoCal chapter is the first chapter of the Romance Writers of America to podcast.

Brea, CA (PRWEB) February 28, 2006 -- Orange County Romance Writers launch a monthly Podcast to keep their members up-to-date with the industry. The SoCal chapter is the first chapter of the Romance Writers of America to podcast.

Romance writers in The O.C. are hot. The Orange County Chapter of the Romance Writers of America (OCC/RWA) boasts a large number of authors who have published 1,867 books, made the New York Times and other lists, as well as winning numerous awards for publication.

Each month there are over a hundred dedicated writers sitting out there in the audience, writers in every stage of their careers, from brand new to seasoned with eighty books or more under their belt
OCC/RWA is also the first chapter of the RWA to podcast. With more than 9,500 members in the national organization, OCC is leading the way as they celebrate their twenty-fifth birthday in 2006. "At twenty-five, we’re glowing with energy," says Sandy Novy-Chvostal, co-President of OCC/RWA, "and plan to celebrate all year long with special promotions, programs, giveaways and whatever else we can devise."

That includes Podcasting. "Whether they're published or waiting for their big break," says OCC's Podcast Producer, Jina Bacarr, "our monthly podcast provides the opportunity for our members to get fast, up-to-date information on that month's meeting, who the speaker is, book signings, market news, online classes, and our newsletter, the Orange Blossom." Members can subscribe to the RSS feed and receive updates as they become available.

The chapter is also sponsoring a contest celebrating 25 Days of Romance on OCC's blog, A Slice of Orange, which features 25 romantic stories for 25 days. According to Blog Editor, Jennifer Apodaca, "A committee will select a winner of the twenty-five stories, and that selection will be read into a podcast and featured on the OCC Website."

The podcast will be recorded by Jina Bacarr and posted by Saturday, March 25th. The winning entry will be announced on the blog on Monday, March 6th. For more information go to: http://occrwa.com/a_slice_of_orange.htm

Podcasting is the latest innovation in an industry that shows no sign of slowing down. According to the Romance Writers of America, romance novels constitute 54.9 percent of all popular mass-market fiction sold and generate $1.2 billion in sales each year.

With its large network of members and its status as one of the largest chapters of RWA, OCC/RWA is the ideal chapter for any romance writer who wants to network with other writers.

"Each month there are over a hundred dedicated writers sitting out there in the audience, writers in every stage of their careers, from brand new to seasoned with eighty books or more under their belt," says Mindy Neff, co-President of OCC/RWA, "…one hand reaching forward and one hand reaching back. Whether you’re just starting out, or have sold twenty-seven books, as I have, we all need that hand."
