Next Generation Vending Devices Deliver New Meaning and Expanded Opportunities to the Concept of “Movies-on-Demand”

MovieMate, Inc. unveils a new generation of automatic DVD Rental machines designed to serve the rapidly changing needs of the home entertainment industry. This new, lower cost, more “intelligent” machines enable consumers to rent and return or buy DVD movies virtually anywhere at anytime.

Centerport, NY (PRWEB) February 28, 2006 -- MovieMate, Inc. is unveiling a new generation of automatic DVD Rental machines designed to serve the rapidly changing needs of the video-at-home entertainment industry. This new, lower cost, more “intelligent” machines enable consumers to rent and return or buy DVD movies virtually anywhere at anytime – and provide options that help retailers compete more effectively with the growing “video-on-demand” options being offered to satellite and digital cable subscribers.

MovieMate, Inc, has built a series of “next generation” DVD rental machines that will have a dramatic impact on the retail DVD-Entertainment Industry. Thanks to a lower cost of ownership, higher reliability, a smaller footprint and dramatically improved customer-friendly features, the MovieMate Model-S series machines offer a superior solution for automating both rentals and sales in this increasingly competitive marketplace. “The two key issues for a retailer, whether they are a national chain or a smaller independent is total cost of ownership (TCO) and ROI,” noted the company’s CEO, Joe Ianno. “The major national rental chains are looking for new ways to secure, protect and even expand their market positions. At the same time, there are no other vending solutions available anywhere in market that makes sense of the lower-margin, higher-volume sales strategies that retailers are facing today. MovieMate solves these problems – offering a viable and profitable solution that expands retail reach into new market venues and lowers the cost of dispensing product within traditional retail locations.”

There is growing pressure within the industry to find new ways to address these trends. According to the Video Software Dealers Association (VSDA), US retail sales of DVDs in 2004 approached $16 billion. Judging from the down-trend pressure in retail pricing, the growth of “budget and bargain issues” and a large retail push of DVDs this past holiday season by major retailers such as Target and Walmart and the big-box stores —it is clear that sales figures for 2005 will continue to trend upward. With the shrinking gap between retail purchase and rental prices, more and more consumers are electing to purchase rather than having to rent, return and possibly face late fees for rentals, especially for non-new-release titles. Increasingly for a growing number of consumers, movies-on-demand means a DVD purchase. The MovieMate solution enables retailers to offer consumers the option of both high-demand new-release rentals and a wide range of straight purchases in a broadening arena of convenient locations and expanded, practically limitless hours of operation. All this adds up to helping retailers compete more aggressively with the proliferation of on-demand media delivery channels.

The company sees tremendous opportunities in traditional rentals. “It makes good economic sense to offer customers the opportunity to “self serve” and avoid long lines at busy times at their local Blockbuster – plus the option of renting (or purchasing) a movie at 3:00AM on a Tuesday – something that younger customers and night-owls may find especially appealing. These machines also offer the option of placing “branded” rental facilities into non-traditional locations, similar to what Starbucks has recently done with major retailers such as Target.

The two things that make these units unique and attractive are lower cost and broader vending options. Higher-end models cost about a third less than the comparable capacity machines in the market today. With smaller footprints (at just 3.5 sq. feet MovieMate is the smallest in the industry) and more flexible vending options (the high-end S-400 even offer wheel-chair access), these machines are ideally suited for a wider variety of locations – from convenience stores, hotels, restaurants and shopping malls. “We designed the Model-S Series to be suitable for any and every possible location.” noted Ianno, “We expect in short order we will see our machines everywhere, from college campuses and airports to luxury hotels.” The new devices not only automate sales, reducing the cost of each transaction, they actually attract new customers. Better quality, lower cost machines coupled with superior service and support makes the MovieMate the ideal choice for any company looking to more effectively compete in this rapidly changing marketplace.

The company is currently rolling out its machines in a few selected markets, and plans to expand sales nationwide during the coming year. MovieMate will be officially introducing their new product line at the at the NAMA Spring Expo, March 23-24, 2006 in the Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada.
