Syracuse, NY (PRWEB) March 1, 2006 -- “The Absolute Truth About Pro Wrestling" documentary gets a New York premiere at Syracuse's B Movie Film Festival Saturday, March 4, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at the The Palace Movie Theater, 2384 James St., Syracuse, NY 13206. Call (315) 463-9240 for more details.
For six years, Brooklyn based filmmaker Mark Ezovski followed three individuals to explore the strange, fascinating and often secretive world of professional wrestling.
“I loved wrestling when I was a kid,” says Ezovski, “I knew it wasn’t on the up and up but there was something so compelling about it that I wanted to believe it was real. Twenty years later, after spending so much time with wrestlers, I learned just how real it is.”
"Luscious" Johnny Valiant, a WWE hall of famer and thirty year veteran of the mat wars would agree. “Wrestling really took toll on me emotionally and physically,” says Valiant, “If I had to do it again, I don’t think I would.”
"Empress Asia" Sky Hosoya, a former professional body builder, Golden Gloves boxing Champion, world renowned dominatrix and -- of course a professional wrestler -- chimes in. “You get to pack yourselves in a car with five sweaty guys,” she says,” drive two hundred miles to the matches and get paid $20. Obviously, I’m not in it for the money.”
"Professor" Larry Brisco the wrestler is really Larry DeGaris Ph. D., college professor by day, dastardly ring villain by night. Trained in an "old school" style with a respect for the craft of the sport, the wrestling professor explains it all very succinctly. “This film is a peek behind the curtain -- sometimes the line between the fact and fiction of wrestling is hard to see. Trying to figure out what’s real and what’s not is what’s so fun and playful about the business.”
The Absolute Truth About Pro Wrestling is a film about three individuals following their dreams and living life on their own terms. It is a funny, sad and uplifting portrait of life inside and outside of the squared circle.
Nominated in the "Best Documentary" category, The Absolute Truth About Pro Wrestling will have it's New York premiere at Syracuse's B Movie Film Festival as it begins a trek across the globe on the film festival circuit making stops at Oklahoma's Bare Bones Film Festival and India's Sports TV Film Festival.
