Ballenger Cleveland & Issa, LLC announced that its Turner’s Outdoors, Inc. deal has won the top award for “Retailing Deal of the Year” at the 4th Annual M&A Advisor Awards Dinner recognizing outstanding achievements in middle market mergers and acquisitions. The dinner was held at the New York Athletic Club in New York City and produced by “The M&A Advisor,” the country’s leading mergers and acquisitions publication. Over 400 corporate and industry leaders attended the event.
Turner’s Outdoors, Inc. was completed in 2005 by the corporate consulting firm Ballenger Cleveland & Issa, LLC (BCI) in conjunction with private investor Don Small and the private equity firm Forrest Binkley & Brown, (FBB). The newly created company, which is headquartered in Chino, Calif., purchased the assets of Andrew’s Sporting Goods DBA Turner’s Outdoorsman, the leading hunting and fishing sporting goods chain of retailers in California. The transaction occurred amid a very competitive market, while overcoming many regulatory and financing hurdles.

According to M&A Advisor, middle market deals are valued between $10 million and $1 billion, and the majority of these deals average $250 million or less. The volume of middle market deals is ten times that of mega-mergers. The middle market drives 70% of the nation’s economy, with over 1,700 deals projected for calendar year 2005 in the U.S. and approximately 6,000 worldwide.
