Dr. Michael J. Kavanagh, Ph.D., professor of management and psychology at the University at Albany, SUNY; and Noel Hannon, principle consultant of Hannon Associates and 32-year Motorola HRIT veteran have been chosen to receive the IHRIM 2006 Excellence Awards. To be presented at the Monday, April 10 conference opening session, the Excellence Award recognizes IHRIM members who have made significant contributions to the advancement of IHRIM's mission and goals through their exemplary volunteer service and/or their leadership of a project that had a positive impact to IHRIM.
Professor Kavanagh received his Ph.D. in industrial psychology from Iowa State University, is a licensed psychologist in the state of New York, and is the past editor of Group & Organization Management, an international journal. He is a fellow of the American Psychological Association, the American Psychological Society, the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology and the Eastern Academy of Management. He was elected to the Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society and the Society of Sigma Xi, and received the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching from the State University of New York.
Dr. Kavanagh has served on the Board of Directors, as treasurer, and as the student outreach chair of the New York Chapter of IHRIM since May 2004. In cooperation with Ed Goldmacher, he developed the HRIS MBA program at the University at Albany-SUNY, 1984-85.
Noel Hannon, IHRIM member since 1989, is principal consultant of Hannon Associates, a firm specializing in human capital measurement and analytics. Prior to establishing Hannon Associates in 2005, he spent 32 years with Motorola where he was the first in-business HRIS manager. Later he assumed senior-level positions within Compensation, Global HRIS, and HR Strategy and Metrics. His career at Motorola focused on installing the systems necessary to collect people-related data or using HR data as a strategic resource in running the HR function.
He has served on the IHRIM Board of Directors, the Professional Development Committee, Conference Content Committee, and as a member and officer of the Midwest Chapter Board. In 2005, he facilitated an IHRIM Focus Group of vendors, practitioners, and consultants to map the future direction of HR and HRMS. He is a certified compensation professional, WorldatWork Certification faculty member, past member of the Saratoga Institute Board of Advisors, frequent speaker on the topic of HR strategy and metrics and a contributor to the IHRIM.link magazine.
