Wellness Resources, Inc. Sheds Light on the Truth Behind Genetically Modified Foods

Not only do 70% of the processed foods in American supermarkets contain genetically modified ingredients, but consumers do not know which ones do because of a lack of labeling requirements. Genetic engineering (GE) is the process of transferring specific traits or genes from one organism into a different plant or animal. The resulting organism is called transgenic or a GMO. Seventy (70%) of processed foods in American supermarkets now contain genetically modified ingredients according to the California Department of Food and Agriculture. Much concern has been raised over the lack of FDA requirement to label such food and inadequate testing of the effects of genetic engineering on humans and the environment. Wellness Resources further states that they are a promoter of sustainable agriculture, a way of raising food that is healthy for consumers and animals, does not harm the environment and is humane for workers and animals, provides a fair wage to the farmer and supports rural communities.
